Role: Research & Interaction

Duration: 2weeks (80Hours)

Tools: Figma & Miro

My story App
Storytelling App for Elderly People

Project Overview

last project of the Google course that points to designing a product to meet social needs, trigger the idea of the My story App to first decrease the social isolation of seniors, and in the second step to develop better intergenerational interaction.

Based on the target users of the app, accessibility got a pivotal role which challenged me in this project.

Product

Goal

It would be a storytelling app that senior people are narrating a story to children. the story would be traditional, cultural, scientific,… .

Problem

There is a communication gap between elderly and younger people due to physical distance or geographic barrier that Coronavirus outbreak make such a gap deeper.

Research

1. Secondary Research (Academic studies, Caregiver)

The lack of a resembling product in this scope to conduct competitive analysis, pushes me to express initial assumptions based on secondary research (academic studies) and the  results in the intergenerational and senior health area.

Sherawat .etal (2017) conducted research entitled “Digital Storytelling: A tool for social connectedness”.

In the two days of workshop, an Intergenerational team was formed consisting of adults and students.

The final product of this project allowed older adults to record certain moments and share those valuable moments with others.

Older adult participants reported an increase in social connectedness and network size through sharing their digital stories with friends, family, and project participants.

  •  Usability Testing Finding (Round1)

  • “I need more guidance before doing video testing.”

  • “It is difficult to add a Title to the video.”

  • “I wish I saw the demo on each page.”

  • “I like to see a timer during recording.”

  •  Usability Testing Finding (Round 2) & Iterations

  • "The background had low contrast. the grandmother’s hair had faded in the background."

  • Adding a title to the video was difficult for users. Due to considering accessibility, the user can only speak with a tap on the microphone and the desired text will be typed.

  • Next steps

  • Adding Kids as an audience.

  • Using AI due to recognizing the narrator’s voice and adding story lyrics to the video.
